What this role is
Entry-level individual contributor supporting company-wide store operations initiatives. At the Entry-Level Professional (P1) level, the role owns own tasks within a defined component, routine problems with known solutions, and drives own deliverables. None — building the craft.
What this level does
- Keeps shelves and displays well stocked, orderly, clean, and organized so the store's appearance aligns with company standards, working under close direction from a supervisor.
- Assists customers in locating products and completing purchases, and answers basic questions about items sold in the store.
- Places merchandise on the floor or shelves and takes inventory counts on assigned aisles or sections following standard procedures.
- Addresses routine customer service concerns and escalates anything outside standard answers to a supervisor.
- Learns and follows the store's product layout, POS transaction steps, and daily open/stock routines under detailed instruction.
- Knowledge applied
- Applies basic product knowledge and standard stocking and POS steps to routine floor tasks; learns store layout and procedures on the job.
- Complexity & problem solving
- Handles routine problems with standard answers — restocking, directing a customer to a product, ringing a sale; escalates anything unfamiliar.
- Collaboration & interaction
- Works within a stable team on the floor under close supervision, interacting directly with customers on transactional needs.
- Typical experience
- 0–1 years; entry-level retail associate, often first job or part-time.

- Customer service and communication

- Merchandise and inventory handling
- — Places merchandise on floor and shelves, takes inventory counts, and manages the flow of goods from receiving through to a well-stocked, orderly selling floor.
- Freight and receiving operations
- — Loads and unloads trucks, moves material from the receiving area throughout the store, and operates equipment such as forklifts to keep the store stocked and ready for business.
- Loss prevention and store security
- — Follows and enforces cash-handling, customer-information, and anti-theft protocols alongside safety regulations to protect store assets and reduce shrink.
- Opening and closing procedures

- Associate onboarding and training
- — Onboards and trains new employees on store policies, procedures, and equipment operation so they can work to store standards.
- Talent development
- — Builds strong retail teams by coaching associates and supervisors and readying them for expanded responsibility — a criterion for advancement in store operations itself.
- Profit-and-loss management
- — Takes hands-on responsibility for a store's operations, labor budget, expense, and profit-and-loss results, controlling shrink and cost against targets.
- Multi-store operational consistency
- — Oversees performance across multiple locations within a region or brand, driving consistent execution of standards and developing strategies to hit regional goals.
- Business strategy and organizational leadership
- — Develops retail operating strategy and leads the organization, blending operational excellence with strategic thinking to optimize processes across regions or a division.
- Point-of-sale (POS) operation

- Retail performance analysis
- — Analyzes store and division operational data — shrink, in-stock rate, service times, sales — to identify performance gaps and drive process optimization and corrective plans.
