What this level does

  • Operate and monitor generation equipment from the central control room, maintaining optimal plant performance and responding to alarms and abnormal conditions within defined procedures
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust generation units so the plant stays within safe and regulatory limits while meeting dispatch and load requirements
  • Adjust controls to generate the specified electrical output and regulate power flow between the generating station and substations, matching generator phase, frequency, and voltage
  • Examine and test electrical power distribution machinery and equipment using testing devices, diagnosing faults and confirming equipment is fit to return to service
  • Communicate with system operators to coordinate transmission loads, frequencies, and line voltages during routine operation
