What this role is
Performs advanced hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of engine room and nuclear plant equipment with minimal supervision. At the Lead Support Specialist (S4) level, the role owns team process and quality, cross-case patterns and process gaps, and drives team-level quality and efficiency. Mentors and coordinates the support team.
What this level does
- Adapt standard maintenance methods to handle unprecedented or unusual failures on plant and mining equipment where no established procedure fits, determining the approach and sequence resourcefully.
- Troubleshoot the toughest multi-system faults (interacting mechanical/electrical/hydraulic/control problems) and recommend new repair or modification solutions, understanding the downstream impact on production and reliability.
- Act as a working lead on repair jobs and shutdowns — assigning tasks to less experienced technicians, checking their work, and keeping the job on its downtime estimate.
- Monitor and optimize facility energy consumption, maintain energy-recovery systems, and drive equipment-efficiency improvements supporting plant sustainability targets.
- Plan and prepare larger repair and special-project work: design/layout, parts procurement, and estimated downtime, feeding realistic estimates to the Lead and Supervisor.
