What this role is
Performs advanced technical analysis and quality control of rock and fluid property data to support petrophysical interpretation. At the Lead Support Specialist (S4) level, the role owns team process and quality, cross-case patterns and process gaps, and drives team-level quality and efficiency. Mentors and coordinates the support team.

- Adapts standard log-preparation and processing methods to unfamiliar or poor-quality datasets — legacy logs with missing headers, non-standard tool combinations, or thin-bed/laminated-sand responses that defeat the routine workflow
- Resolves conflicts across multi-source datasets (wireline, LWD, core, formation pressure, production logging, cement evaluation) where records disagree, determining a defensible reconciled version and documenting the rationale
- Builds and maintains reusable IP/Techlog workflow templates, parameter sets and QC scripts so recurring project work runs consistently across the team
- Acts as working lead on the data-technician effort for a project or fast-turnaround transaction, allocating well workload and setting the QC standard under tight timelines
- Informally guides and trains less experienced technicians on log editing, depth alignment and data-management practice

- Log data loading and management
- — Loads wireline and LWD/MWD log files into petrophysical software, applying correct depth references, units and curve naming, and maintains the well and curve inventory so datasets are traceable and interpretation-ready.
- Log data quality control
- — Inspects log curves for nulls, spikes, tool artefacts and bad-hole washout effects, deciding which intervals to correct, edit or discard so downstream saturation and porosity analysis is not corrupted.
- Depth alignment and log splicing
- — Depth-shifts and splices multiple logging runs and merges wireline with LWD curves onto a common reference, resolving overlap and depth mismatches between runs.
- Environmental corrections and normalisation
- — Applies standard borehole environmental corrections and curve normalisation to gamma ray, resistivity, density and neutron logs following established petrophysical procedures.
- Core and log data integration
- — Reconciles core measurement datasets (RCAL/SCAL) and formation pressure/fluid sampling records against log data by depth and sample identity, flagging where core and log porosity or permeability diverge.
- Standard petrophysical workflow execution
- — Runs defined clay-volume, porosity and water-saturation workflows in the software, selecting appropriate parameters and corrections for the well under review.
- Interactive Petrophysics (IP)
- — Uses Interactive Petrophysics to load, edit, process and plot borehole log data and to run and template repeatable log-analysis workflows for the petrophysics group.
- Techlog (SLB)
- — Uses Techlog to condition, QC and manage wellbore log and core datasets and to prepare composite displays and cross-plots for petrophysical interpretation.
- Petrophysical plotting and display preparation
- — Builds composite log displays, cross-plots and template presentations of petrophysical data to the group's standards for petrophysicists and multidisciplinary teams to review.
- Data acquisition awareness
- — Applies practical knowledge of well logging operations, drilling practices and core retrieval so acquired wireline, MWD/LWD, production logging and cement evaluation data is catalogued and status-tracked correctly.
- Workflow templating and standardisation
- — Creates reusable workflow templates, parameter sets, QC scripts and naming conventions so recurring petrophysical data-preparation runs consistently across wells, projects and software platforms.
