What this role is

Experienced individual contributor who leads the assembly, testing, and installation of battery storage systems at renewable energy plants. At the Senior Professional (P4) level, the role owns a system or set of related features, devises new approaches, and drives multi-team / function outcomes. Technical lead for focused efforts; mentors several.

What this level does

  • Lead operations for a complex multi-technology renewable site, performing in-depth analysis of net capacity factor, curtailment, and availability across variable resource conditions
  • Develop and optimize project technology, plant layout, and net capacity factor, selecting analytical methods and calculation approaches for renewable-technology performance
  • Coordinate across production, maintenance, dispatch, and EHS groups to sequence outages, upgrades, and troubleshooting with minimal generation impact
  • Lead or supervise operator crews and coordinate project activities such as control-system upgrades and remote-monitoring rollouts
  • Influence operating and capital decisions by translating performance analysis into recommendations on asset dispatch, retrofits, and monitoring strategy
Knowledge applied
Applies advanced analysis of net capacity factor, availability, and curtailment across complex multi-technology sites, selecting methods and calculation approaches.
Complexity & problem solving
Performs in-depth analysis of complex operating variables with functional impact on site generation performance.
Collaboration & interaction
Coordinates across production, maintenance, dispatch, and EHS groups; may supervise operator crews and lead projects.
Typical experience
8+ years, often with engineering or technical graduate education.

Skills at this level

SCADA-based remote monitoring
Uses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, PLCs, and data loggers to remotely monitor wind, solar, hydro, and bioenergy assets, detect faults, and control generation from a control room.
Net capacity factor (NCF) calculation
Calculates net capacity factors for renewable technologies and uses the results to optimize project technology, plant layout, and dispatch decisions.
Power Plant Controller (PPC) integration
Configures and troubleshoots Power Plant Controllers to regulate active/reactive power and meet grid-interconnection setpoints across renewable generation units.
Cybersecurity, communication protocols and networking
Secures and troubleshoots the communication protocols, networking, and schematic diagrams underpinning renewable control systems to protect and sustain SCADA/PPC monitoring.
Mechanical skills
Uses tools and works with generation machinery, applying preventive maintenance and electricity fundamentals such as voltage and electricity flow.
Bioenergy feedstock and process handling
Controls chemical reactions, processes intermediate products, and moves feedstock through a bioenergy plant while keeping process conditions within specified ranges.
Detail orientation / vigilant monitoring
Carefully watches controls and machinery, reading meters and logging values to confirm equipment operates within parameters and to catch out-of-range conditions early.
Manual dexterity
Uses precise, repeated motions to operate and calibrate equipment and manipulate control-room components.
Emergency and crisis-response coordination
Coordinates the response to power outages and equipment failures to preserve life and equipment, and plans and runs drills to ensure crisis-response readiness.
Generation performance optimization
Analyzes curtailment, availability, and NCF across variable resource conditions and recommends operating adjustments to close generation performance gaps.
