What this level does

  • Participate in overall planning, coordinating and management of the personnel and activities of the entire Marine Operations section, including commercial cargo, cruise ship terminal, commercial fishing vessel and mooring facilities
  • Serve as principal assistant to the Director with overall accountability for managing the day-to-day operations of the entire Marine Operations Section under general direction
  • Develop strategies within the department to create a safety culture consistent with loss-control goals, providing leadership that sets an example reflecting the importance of safe work practices
  • Define organization-wide marine operating policies, standards and performance targets that shape how vessel and cargo operations are run across all facilities
  • Influence industry practice and represent the organization on regulatory, port-authority and marine-community matters as a recognized authority

Applies federal and state vessel operating rules, safety protocols and environmental regulations to marine operations, and builds safety culture consistent with loss-control goals.
Marine Vendor and Agency Relations
Handles clients diplomatically and networks with vendors, operators, port authorities and agencies in the marine community to secure services and resolve operational issues.
Marine Navigation and Communication Systems
