Applies lean manufacturing methods to improve production processes and support design-for-manufacture initiatives under general guidance. At the Developing Professional (P2) level, the role owns defined deliverables / small features, applies established patterns, and drives own and immediate-team deliverables. May guide interns.

What this level does

  • Facilitate 5S, Kaizen and changeover (SMED) workshops on defined processes, applying standard procedures with milestone check-ins from a senior engineer
  • Assist in estimating manufacturing costs by determining time standards and recommending conventional process improvements for existing product lines
  • Educate and coach operators on lean tools — Kanban, standard work, poka-yoke — to spread lean practices at the workstation level
  • Lead problem-solving activities on familiar production issues, applying PDCA to identify and implement countermeasures and verify results
