What this role is
Experienced technician who independently performs maintenance, repair, and installation of drilling, well, and pipeline equipment in the field. Guides junior support informally.
What this level does
- Troubleshoot, test, repair and service moderately difficult equipment faults independently, exercising judgment on the proper solution with little daily instruction
- Diagnose errors or technical problems where the answer is not obvious and determine the appropriate repair path from schematics, symptoms, and equipment history
- Provide technical training to customers on new equipment installations and coordinate parts and scheduling across multiple concurrent callouts
- Develop technical service notes and maintenance records that document non-routine repairs for reuse by other technicians
- Handle callouts requiring initiative where standard procedures do not fully cover the situation, escalating only genuinely unresolvable issues
- Knowledge applied
- Detailed knowledge of maintenance procedures sufficient to perform non-routine repairs and diagnose non-obvious faults independently.
- Complexity & problem solving
- Moderately difficult problems requiring judgment on the proper repair path from symptoms and equipment history, with little daily instruction.
- Collaboration & interaction
- Substantial procedural understanding; coordinates parts and scheduling across concurrent jobs; trains customers on new installations.
- Typical experience
- 2–4 years; skilled in field maintenance.
