What this role is
Provides engineering support for drilling operations under general guidance. At the Developing Professional (P2) level, the role owns defined deliverables / small features, applies established patterns, and drives own and immediate-team deliverables. May guide interns.
What this level does
- Work with the driller to monitor the speed and pressure of the drill, making adjustments based on changing geological conditions
- Operate tongs and wrenches to make up and break out drill pipe connections, and run hoists to position drill string components
- Manage the drilling string when lowered down the hole and take position on the monkey board in the derrick to handle pipe during trips
- Mix and maintain drilling mud/fluid systems and perform routine machinery upkeep while assisting the driller
- Conduct inspections and troubleshoot conventional equipment issues within defined procedures during a well phase

- Applies defined procedures for making up pipe connections, running the drill string, mixing mud, and monitoring speed and pressure.

- — Ensures drilling operations meet safety standards and environmental regulations, identifying and mitigating wellsite hazards throughout the operation.
- Rig Crew Supervision
- — Supervises and directs rig crews and well-site supervisors, coordinating the drilling process across one or multiple concurrent rig operations.
