- Resolve the most complex, cross-service operational incidents and design the preventive procedural changes so the same class of failure does not recur
- Develop reusable IaC and CI/CD templates and monitoring patterns that other support staff adopt without needing to be sold on them team by team
- Define the operational standard for integrating security checks into pipelines and infrastructure procedures across the support function
- Act as working lead for the support team — facilitating peer execution, maintaining the operational runbook library and guiding technique across the function

Skills at this level
- Alert triage and monitoring
- — Watches service dashboards and alert consoles, distinguishes benign from actionable alerts against defined thresholds, and escalates incidents to on-call engineers per the alert-handling procedure.
- Incident response runbook execution
- — Follows documented incident-response and troubleshooting runbooks to contain and diagnose service disruptions, recording observations and handing diagnosed findings to engineers.
- CI/CD pipeline operation
- — Runs, reruns and maintains continuous integration and delivery pipeline jobs, verifying each stage completes and clearing failed builds within established pipeline standards.
- Deployment and rollback procedures
- — Executes multi-step release and rollback runbooks for applications, confirming health checks and performance after each deployment.
- Infrastructure-as-code administration
- — Applies and adjusts infrastructure changes from existing IaC templates — adding hosts, tuning scaling parameters — and submits them for review.
- Dashboard and alert-rule configuration
- — Builds and tunes monitoring dashboards and alert thresholds so they reflect observed normal behavior for existing services.
- Incident correlation and diagnosis
- — Correlates logs, metrics and recent deployments to isolate the likely cause of a moderately difficult incident before handing a diagnosed ticket to an engineer.
- Release sequencing coordination
- — Judges safe timing and ordering of routine multi-service releases across teams from procedural knowledge, without holding formal leadership authority.
- Pipeline security integration
- — Runs and positions dependency, secrets and vulnerability scans within CI/CD pipelines, forwarding flagged findings and adapting scan gating when new build patterns arise.
- Runbook and procedure authoring
- — Captures new operational steps into runbooks and creates new pipeline and monitoring standards for the support function, establishing how they are adopted across teams.
- Reusable template development
- — Develops reusable IaC modules, CI/CD templates and monitoring patterns that other support staff adopt directly for their own services.
- Working-lead incident coordination
- — Directs the response steps of less experienced staff during complex or extended incidents, facilitating peer execution without formal management authority.
