Serves as the senior technical authority on manufacturing and industrial engineering solutions, guiding process design and problem-solving across production lines. At the Principal Support Specialist (S5) level, the role owns function-wide support practice, program-level and systemic support problems, and drives support strategy across the function. Subject-matter authority; shapes the practice.

What this level does

  • Creates new data-collection and study procedures and measurement templates for the plant — standardizing how cycle-time, yield and metrology data are captured so results are consistent across shifts and cells.
  • Resolves the most complex procedural and data-integrity issues, developing techniques (e.g., a reusable CMM routine library or a standardized SCADA-export-to-metrics workflow) that become the accepted method.
  • Acts as working lead and facilitator across the support group on major manufacturing/optimization projects, allocating the documentation and measurement workload and owning the quality of the combined output.
  • Provides authoritative guidance to engineers and technicians on the plant's established methods, historical process records and document-control system — the recognized go-to for how a procedure came to be.
  • Trains technicians and peers on new tools and revised procedures, and contributes the support-side input when engineers redesign standards, layouts or process-monitoring approaches.

Pulls production-count, machine-state and downtime data from supervisory control (SCADA) and human-machine-interface (HMI) systems into structured spreadsheets for monitoring and analysis.
Document Control & Revision Management
Maintains controlled process documents, filing revisions in correct locations and ensuring the current version of every SOP, work instruction and routing sheet is the one available to the floor.
Excel & Access Data Tooling
Builds and maintains recurring spreadsheets and Access datasets — pivot tables, lookups and templates — that turn raw manufacturing observations into the repeatable metrics engineers use for decisions.
