What this role is

Manages the day-to-day operations and staff of a single store. At the Senior Manager (M3) level, the role owns multiple teams or a sub-function, multi-team execution and resourcing trade-offs, and drives sub-function outcomes. Manages managers and/or several teams.

What this level does

  • Hold full P&L ownership within the store: meeting the sales plan, managing payroll to budget, keeping shrink within target, controlling discretionary operating and occupancy costs
  • Assign areas of responsibility (AOR) to team members — typically one assistant manager or supervisor per area — and ensure each delivers on related KPIs
  • Identify talent on the team, place people in roles that best use their skills, and build development and coaching plans for top performers
  • Serve as the primary representative of the store within the district, participating in monthly and quarterly business reviews with district management
  • Operate on two timescales at once — resolving immediate crises (labor gaps, escalating customers, equipment failures) while protecting time for associate development, shrink programs, and store condition
Knowledge applied
Applies full store-operations and retail-business-model knowledge to own a single store's P&L and standards.
Complexity & problem solving
Evaluates diverse issues and trends across sales, shrink, labor, and expense; balances immediate crises against longer-term store improvement.
Collaboration & interaction
Leads the store team and multiple AOR owners; represents the store to district management in business reviews.
Typical experience
5–7+ years managing retail professionals and a store budget with full P&L accountability.
