What this role is
Directly supervises a team of production workers to meet daily manufacturing output and quality targets. At the Manager (Team Lead) (M1) level, the role owns a single team, day-to-day delivery and people issues, and drives team output and health. Direct people management of one team.
What this level does
- Supervises the daily operations of a single production area or shift, reviewing the day's production orders and SOPs and verifying raw materials are staged and correct before run start
- Directs operators running production machinery — CNC machines, injection molders, packaging lines, fabrication tools — and ensures pre-run equipment checks are completed each shift
- Monitors production lines in real time, conducts inspections, and troubleshoots process bottlenecks as they arise to keep the line running to plan
- Owns shift handoffs, communicating equipment status, open issues, and output progress to the incoming supervisor and to maintenance/quality teams
- Enforces safety and housekeeping standards and maintains process documentation for the unit's output
- Knowledge applied
- Applies functional expertise in machine operation and SOPs within a single production area; established practices govern the work.
- Complexity & problem solving
- Limited scope; troubleshoots routine line issues and equipment faults using known procedures.
- Collaboration & interaction
- Daily interaction with operators and peer supervisors; hands off status to adjacent shifts and maintenance.
- Typical experience
- Functional/production expert with some leadership exposure; often a promoted senior operator or technician.
