What this role is

Senior supervisor overseeing daily pharmacy operations and staff performance while filling in on advanced clinical and dispensing tasks. At the Manager II (M2) level, the role owns an established team or sub-function, cross-project coordination and priorities, and drives group delivery and development. Manages a team; sometimes manages leads.

What this level does

  • Lead a skilled team of technicians and junior staff pharmacists, owning tactical outcomes for a pharmacy's throughput, accuracy, and customer service across the day
  • Train and onboard new pharmacy staff — teaching how to process insurance claims, label medications, assemble and store medications, order supplies and prescriptions, and interact with customers
  • Purchase drugs, identify and manage drug shortages, and modify drug inventory within automated dispensing systems to keep a diverse selection available
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with front-of-store operations, prescribers' offices, and vendors to resolve stock, billing, and prescription-transfer issues
  • Supervise interns and provide guidance on complex technical tasks, ensuring staff attend appropriate training programs and meet competency standards
Knowledge applied
Leads a skilled technician/junior-pharmacist team; applies deeper operational knowledge to training, purchasing, and shortage management.
Complexity & problem solving
Exercises judgment within known factors — insurance rejections, shortages, workflow balancing — choosing among established options.
Collaboration & interaction
Cross-functional cooperation with front-of-store, vendors, and prescribers; supervises interns and onboards new staff.
Typical experience
2–5 years in team leadership or specialist pharmacy-operations roles.
