— Develops and implements mine planning, engineering and related systems and standards, ensuring short-range plans align with and achieve long-range and business objectives.

Mine Modeling & Optimization Software

— Builds block models and runs optimization and scheduling scenarios in Whittle, Vulcan and Deswik to test design alternatives; proficiency deepens with seniority and larger, riskier ore bodies.

Mine Layout Drafting

— Produces and revises mine layouts, cross-sections and infrastructure drawings in AutoCAD to design standards, translating engineering intent into buildable, dimensioned representations.

Geological Data Analysis

— Interprets drillhole, assay and survey data to characterize the ore body and inform grade estimation, design boundaries and mining constraints.

Mine Safety & Environmental Compliance

— Checks that mine designs and active workings conform to safety and environmental regulations, identifying and mitigating hazards such as slope instability and ground-control risk.

Geotechnical & Ground-Control Judgment

— Predicts slope stability, ground behavior and factors of safety through calculation to ensure life-critical mine structures are designed right before construction, treating field tests as the ultimate authority under doubt.

Mine Failure Analysis

— Conducts forensic investigation of mine failures and chronic underperformance — slope failures, dilution, schedule collapse — to isolate the root cause behind the apparent cause and prevent recurrence across the operation.

Client Technical Advisory

— Advises mining clients and their management on mine strategy, design conclusions and project terms, presenting and defending technical findings in feasibility and stakeholder reviews.

Technical Mentorship & Standards Leadership

— Sets technical standards, reviews others' plans and designs, and develops junior and senior engineers' capability in mine planning, ventilation or production-optimization specializations.
