What this role is

Provides hands-on technical support for electrical power and signaling systems under routine supervision. At the Support Specialist (S2) level, the role owns a defined queue or customer set, standard issues within known procedures, and drives customer satisfaction for own queue. None.

What this level does

  • Produce complete multi-sheet schematics and panel layouts in AutoCAD Electrical from marked-up prototypes, resolving routine wire-numbering, cross-referencing and bill-of-materials tasks with only general direction
  • Carry out multi-step prototype build and test sequences (continuity, insulation, load) and compile results into engineering reports, flagging readings that fall outside expected ranges
  • Coordinate day-to-day drawing exchanges with mechanical and other disciplines on multidisciplinary jobs, keeping revision states aligned
  • Look up NEC and OSHA reference tables to check that drawings carry the correct conductor sizes, clearances and labeling before submission for engineer review
Knowledge applied
Broad knowledge of drafting and prototype-test procedures; performs varied multi-step schematic, layout and test-compile tasks and does routine NEC/OSHA table lookups.
Complexity & problem solving
Semi-routine tasks; recognizes when a reading or drawing detail deviates from expectation and refers it for review.
Collaboration & interaction
Works to general expectations, deadlines and priorities; coordinates routine drawing exchanges with peers in other disciplines.
Typical experience
1–2 years; some related electrical drafting/test experience.

Skills at this level

AutoCAD Electrical drafting
Produces electrical schematics, panel layouts and wiring diagrams in AutoCAD Electrical from sketches and redlines, applying wire-numbering, cross-referencing and title-block conventions.
Electrical calculations
Performs voltage, current and load calculations into standard worksheets to support conductor sizing and component selection on drawing packages.
Codes, standards, and compliance
Checks drawings and assemblies against NEC and OSHA reference tables for conductor sizes, clearances and labeling, and reconciles discrepancies for engineer review.
Prototype build and bench testing
Sets up and runs prototype rigs and continuity, insulation and load tests on electrical components or assemblies, recording results against expected ranges.
Design & simulation software
Runs MATLAB/Simulink models and Powersim PSIM simulations at engineer request to reproduce circuit behavior and help isolate faults.
Design documentation and revision control
Logs design revisions in the drawing register, compiles engineering reports, and keeps revision states aligned across multidisciplinary drawing exchanges.
Multidisciplinary coordination
Coordinates day-to-day drawing and data exchange with mechanical and other engineering disciplines to keep an electrical package consistent.
Quality control analysis
Conducts check-print reviews and inspections of test data to evaluate that drawings and prototypes meet specification before release.
Procedure development
Creates and documents new drafting conventions, test procedures and calculation templates for the electrical support group to follow.
Coaching/mentoring
Guides less experienced drafters and technicians on tools, standards and check-print practice as an informal working lead.
