What this role is
An experienced individual contributor who provides advanced technical and planning support for drilling operations. At the Lead Support Specialist (S4) level, the role owns team process and quality, cross-case patterns and process gaps, and drives team-level quality and efficiency. Mentors and coordinates the support team.
What this level does
- Adapt reporting and cost-tracking procedures for unprecedented situations — new well types, unusual service arrangements or non-standard rig data feeds — where the standard templates do not fit
- Act as working lead over data, reporting and materials-tracking support during multi-rig campaigns, distributing tasks and checking others' outputs
- Manage procurement coordination for drilling materials and contracted services end to end, resolving delivery conflicts and vendor discrepancies that disrupt the well schedule
- Reconstruct and validate incomplete or disputed drilling and cost records for audits, regulatory reviews or after-incident data requests
- Resolve conflicts between field data, contractor records and cost systems, deciding how to represent the operation accurately when sources disagree
- Knowledge applied
- Extensive knowledge of drilling support procedures and their administration, enough to adapt them for unprecedented well types, data feeds and contractual arrangements.
- Complexity & problem solving
- Understands implications of data and cost discrepancies; recommends new solutions and resolves conflicts across field, contractor and cost sources.
- Collaboration & interaction
- Determines methods for new assignments; may informally guide and check the work of less-experienced support staff during campaigns.
- Typical experience
- 4–6 yrs; advanced drilling-support experience.
