What this role is
An entry-level professional who supports the administration of employee benefit programs, including retirement plans. At the Entry-Level Professional (P1) level, the role owns own tasks within a defined component, routine problems with known solutions, and drives own deliverables. None — building the craft.
What this level does
- Assist with new hire benefit enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and annual open enrollment activities under close supervision
- Prepare and distribute enrollment reminders and proactive benefits communications to employees
- Conduct benefits orientations and informational sessions for new hires using established materials
- Maintain detailed records and documentation for compliance purposes, following standard procedures
- Reconcile benefit enrollment records, invoices, and employee deductions to flag discrepancies for review
- Knowledge applied
- Applies basic understanding of enrollment processes and benefit plan types; follows detailed instructions and standard templates for communications and record-keeping. Learning federal frameworks (COBRA/HIPAA, FMLA, Section 125) rather than interpreting them independently.
- Complexity & problem solving
- Handles routine enrollment questions and record discrepancies with standard answers; escalates anything involving eligibility interpretation or regulatory judgment.
- Collaboration & interaction
- Works with stable internal relationships — payroll, HR peers, and employees on transactional questions. Refers provider/agency issues upward.
- Typical experience
- 0–1 years; new grad or entry-level Benefits Coordinator / Junior Administrator.
